lion´s mane cup

when I started to think about this project,
this was the first shape that entered my mind.
I have a thing for lions since I visited the sasan gir lion sanctuary years ago.
it is the last place where asian lions can be found in the wild.
despite it´s fierce appearance, this is actually a fine cup to drink from.
the protrusions provide a good grip
and the shape of the rim is comfortable to the lips.
but I understand that it takes some getting used to.
the lady that managed to get a hold of it went to great lengths to
gracefully position variegated leaves in it

it is made from austrian stoneware clay with various coloured engobes.
